First Cocktail:
Bee’s Knees:
2 oz gin of your choice
.75 oz honey syrup
.75 oz lemon juice
Option lemon peel garnish
Second Cocktail:
(Black) Manhattan
2 oz bourbon of choice (or rye if they have it)
1 oz sweet vermouth or 1 oz amaro of choice
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Optional orange peel garnish and cherry garnish
Needed:
- 1 bottle of bourbon, your choice. (Having trouble picking one out? Carrie suggests Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, Michter’s bourbon, or Four Roses Small Batch. If you want to go local, try J Henry 5yr or go a slightly different route and purchase a bottle of Dancing Goat Limousin Rye!)
- Honey syrup.
- Directions: Combine equal parts honey and hot water, stir until dissolved, store in the fridge. The hotter the water, the better!
- Lemon juice (either freshly squeezed or purchased at the grocery store)
- 1 bottle of sweet vermouth (Carrie suggests Dolin for a cheaper option, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino for more notes of vanilla, or the local Ruddy Fox Sweet Vermouth for more spice and cherry notes)
- OR 1 bottle of Italian amaro (Carrie suggests Averna or Ramazzotti. Substituting amaro instead of the traditional vermouth gives the Manhattan a deeper, richer, and more herbaceous feel to it. Perfect for a cold night inside! Amaro makes for an excellent post-dinner sipping beverage, hence the reason amaros are classified as a digestif!)
- 1 bottle of Angostura bitters
- Optional: Lemon, orange, and cocktail cherries (preferably Italian cherries)
- Measuring tool (such as a jigger or measuring spoons)
- Hawthorn strainer (or other option that ensure the ice to be strained off if they wish their drinks to be ice free)
- Cocktail shaker or glass and plastic cup that can create a seal ideal for shaking
- Optional: Citrus peeler
- Ice
- Cocktail glasses (either martini/coupe style or standard lowball glass)
- Spoon for stirring
