As a local chapter of Ad 2 National and an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), Ad 2 Madison is a non-profit organization of marketing and communications professionals, students, and enthusiasts, aged 18 to 32. Today, Ad 2 as a whole consists of over 1,000 members and 25 chapters nationwide.
We provide educational, networking, public service, and leadership opportunities to our members through regular speaker programs, social activities, and an annual pro-bono marketing and communications campaign for a Madison area non-profit organization.
Ad 2 creates a means for up-and-coming professionals in the industry to gain the contacts, education, and leadership opportunities they need to become tomorrow’s industry leaders.
Now, I’m sure you’re thinking, “Well, that is all fine and dandy but what exactly are the benefits of becoming a member?”
Given that we are professionals in the industry, of course we have a hashtag to help answer this burning question of yours. Do a quick search of #WhyAd2 on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and you’ll find an abundance of reasons why individuals across the nation are part of Ad 2.
Here are my top five reasons for #WhyAd2.
1. Hands-on experience. We give our members opportunities to improve their skills through planning events, managing projects, writing copy, building websites, creating designs, and more.
2. Networking with professionals. We’re all here for the same reason: to make connections! Social events, like our Annual Birthday Bash, are a great way to meet other young professionals in the Madison area in a casual setting. No stuffy networking meet and greets here; we work to organize fun networking opportunities for our members. (P.s. Looking to build your network? See these great networking tips.)
3. Educational programs. We bring in speakers from across Wisconsin to keep you on top of new topics and issues in the marketing and communications industry and allow you to continue your professional development.
4. Community involvement. Each year, Ad 2 Madison works closely with a local non-profit to create and execute a pro-bono marketing and communications campaign. Want to learn more about this year’s Public Service campaign and how you can get involved? Contact our Public Service Chair, Amber Sandall, or visit our Public Service webpage.
5. Leadership skills. Joining any of Ad 2 Madison’s committees is a great way to get involved and make your presence felt! It’s excellent for your resume, fun, and rewarding—all while providing you with leadership opportunities you may not have in your current job. Our committees include:
- Public Service – creates a marketing and communications campaign for one Madison non-profit every year.
- Programs – plans our educational and social events.
- Membership – recruits new members, while keeping current Ad 2 members happy.
- Fundraising – creates sponsorship collateral and secures sponsorships.
- Communications – keeps Ad 2 members up-to-date with email blasts, social media, and now through our blog!
- Web – maintains our website.
- Creative – designs and produces all Ad 2 promotional materials.
- Diversity – promotes diversity through Ad 2 events and other opportunities.
